Cremation Options
After your pet’s peaceful in-home euthanasia, we offer two compassionate cremation options to honour your beloved companion. Each option is handled with dignity, respect, and care, ensuring your pet is treated as if they were our own.
Private Cremation (Ashes Returned)
Your pet is cremated individually, and their ashes are returned to you in a standard urn (metal or wooden included). This option allows you to keep your pet’s cremated remains close to you as a personal memorial.
Communal Cremation (No Ashes Returned)
Your pet is gently cremated together with other pets, and the ashes are respectfully placed in a communal burial area. No ashes are returned with this option, but you may add a paw print or memorial keepsake if you wish.
Memorial Urns, Paw Prints & Keepsakes
Families often choose to honour their pet’s memory with special urns, paw impressions, jewellery, or custom keepsakes. You can browse all available options in our full Memorial & Keepsakes Catalogue.

Assessing Your Pet’s Quality of Life
Evaluating your pet’s quality of life is an essential step in determining whether pet euthanasia may be the most compassionate choice.
Understanding your dog or cat’s comfort, health, and daily behavior helps you make a thoughtful, loving decision during this emotional time.
Key Factors to Consider
- Mobility: Can your pet move comfortably? Are they able to stand, walk, or climb stairs without assistance?
Limited or painful mobility can greatly affect their ability to enjoy life. - Pain Management: Is your pet experiencing ongoing pain that medication no longer controls?
Chronic discomfort can significantly reduce quality of life and may indicate it’s time to discuss humane euthanasia with your veterinarian. - Appetite and Hydration: A pet that stops eating or drinking regularly may be suffering or losing strength.
Poor nutrition and dehydration can quickly lead to further health decline. - Behavioral Changes: Noticeable shifts — such as excessive sleeping, lethargy, or withdrawal — can suggest your pet is unwell or in discomfort.
- Incontinence or Accidents: Frequent accidents or difficulty controlling bladder or bowel movements may indicate serious conditions that impact both comfort and dignity.
- Overall Comfort: Observe whether your pet rests peacefully or shows signs of distress, anxiety, or discomfort.
A calm, pain-free state is essential to maintaining quality of life.

How to Say Goodbye Before In-Home Pet Euthanasia
Saying goodbye to a beloved dog or cat before in-home pet euthanasia is one of the most emotional experiences a pet owner can face.
Taking a few thoughtful steps can help ensure your pet’s final moments are peaceful, loving, and meaningful.
- Choose a Comfortable Setting: Select a quiet, familiar space where your pet feels most at ease — perhaps their favorite bed, blanket, or resting spot. A calm and cozy environment helps your pet relax and feel safe.
- Gather Loved Ones: Invite close family members or friends who share a bond with your pet to be present. Surrounding your pet with familiar, loving faces provides reassurance and warmth in their final moments.
- Create a Peaceful Atmosphere: Keep the room calm by dimming the lights, playing soft music, or lighting a candle. Pets are sensitive to emotions, so maintaining a peaceful mood helps them remain relaxed.
- Speak Softly and Comfortingly: Talk to your pet in a gentle voice. Share happy memories or remind them how much they are loved. Simple words like “You’ve been such a good friend” or “Thank you for all the happiness you brought us” can bring comfort to both of you.
- Offer Physical Comfort: Pet your companion softly, hold them if possible, and let your touch communicate love and safety. Your gentle presence can bring immense comfort and calmness.
- Express Gratitude and Say Goodbye: Take your time to say goodbye in your own way. Express gratitude for the years of joy and companionship you’ve shared. It’s okay to cry or simply sit quietly — your presence means everything.
- Be Present During the Final Moments: During the euthanasia process, stay close, speak softly, and continue to comfort your pet. Your calm voice and touch make this transition peaceful and full of love.
- Honor Your Pet’s Memory: After your pet has passed, consider creating a small memorial, keepsake, or photo tribute. Reflecting on the happy memories helps you find comfort and healing.
